Ford Recalls 462K More Vehicles for Rear Camera Error

Jan. 30, 2023

Ford's several recalls due to backup camera malfunctions have caused the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to launch an investigation.

Jan. 30, 2023 – Ford has recalled 462,000 of their vehicles due to a backup camera malfunction, Reuters reports.

The recall will apply globally and affect “some 2020-2023 model year Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, and 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair vehicles equipped with 360-degree cameras.” Ford will release an update for dealers to remedy the problem.

Of the 462,000 recalled, the United States will account for over 80%, with 382,000 of the recalled vehicles located there.

There have been 17 minor crashes and over 2,100 warranty reports as a result of the camera failure, according to Ford. No injury has been reported.

Ford recalled 228,000 vehicles in 2021, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration received reports that there was a blue image appearing in the backup camera display of Ford’s vehicles.

In August 2021 the NHTSA opened an investigation into Ford after they recalled another 620,246 cars for a rear camera error. The NHTSA is determining “if Ford had recalled the vehicles in a timely fashion and if it recalled enough vehicles.”
