Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy expresses concern over excessive EV weight on highway safety.

Jan. 12, 2023—U.S. National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy has increasing concerns about the growing weight of electric vehicles.

As reported by Reuters, Homendy said in a speech that the potential increase of severe injury and fatalities from the excess weight of electric vehicles, "has a significant impact on safety for all road users."

Homendy pointed out that General Motors’ GMC Hummer EV weighs over 9,000 pounds, 3,000 more than the gasoline version, saying, "We have to be careful that we aren’t also creating unintended consequences: more death on our roads.”
