March 8, 2023–Ford has announced that it will increase production on six vehicle models this year, with half of them being electric, Transport Topics reports.

2022 was a slow year for the auto manufacturing industry, with auto sales in the U.S. falling to almost 8% last year according to Autodata Corp–Ford in particular had auto sales drop “just over 2%.”

2023 seems to be turning more in their favor though, with “overall industry sales rising 9.5% over the same month a year ago,” according to LMC Automotive data as reported by Transport Topics. With Ford seeing an increase of nearly 22% in sales this past February, the company has decided it’s time to ramp production back up.

Ford announced on March 3 that it plans to produce more vehicles–specifically “the Mustang Mach-E, the Bronco Sport SUV and Maverick small pickup, the F-150 Lightning electric pickup and the Transit and E-Transit gas and electric full-size vans.” 

In order to achieve this, the company announced last year that a third shift would be introduced at its “full-size van plant” in Claycomo, Missouri, as well as 1,100 more jobs. Their plant in Dearborn, Michigan, which produces the F-150 Lightning, will be adding 3,200 more jobs.
