A recent survey showed that over half of auto industry experts are doubtful of achieving a transition to electric vehicles by the 2030s, Car Scoops reports.

According to data from ABB Robotics and Automotive Manufacturing Solutions, 59% of almost 600 industry experts that were surveyed confessed that they “doubted that the switch to EVs was possible within the timeframe specified by lawmakers.”

Those surveyed were compromised of “experts working directly for carmakers, plus suppliers, engineers and managers employed in the auto industry.” Reasons for doubt stem from concern with battery supply chains, lacking the raw materials needed, and “a lack of grid capacity and charging infrastructure.”

Only 11% of the group said that they believed current EV transition targets were feasible, with 18% having said current targets were impossible to meet. 

Respondents were also asked if they believed the auto industry could utilize sustainable manufacturing, which was met with less skepticism, with only 4% disagreeing. One quarter of respondents, however, admitted that “the costs to manufacturers was a challenge.”
