The American Automobile Association (AAA) has reported a recent increase in women working in their company, 10tv reports.
AAA officials have said that the company has seen a 20% increase in women working “in their automotive and car care roles.” When looking at fleet operators (including tow truck drivers), a 35% increase of women in the field is reported.
The Columbus, Ohio AAA store best reflects the company’s growing workforce. The location has a team full of women, performing roles “that 10 years ago would have traditionally been done by men.”
Both men and women seek auto repairs, and it can be offputting to only see the opposite gender in every auto shop. One employee, Rose Thacker, told 10tv that she believes “there is some comfort to” a woman walking in, talking to her and seeing other women working there, “as opposed to an all men's shop.”
Thacker encourages any woman that wants to join the field and believes that the industry is making an effort to be welcoming and empowering.
“There are more women willing to step out of their comfort zone and willing to work on vehicles,” she said.
