A survey from J.D. Power shows that dissatisfaction with at-home EV charging has decreased from the same time last year, according to Green Car Reports.
The U.S. Electric Vehicle Experience Home Charging Study took place from December 2022 through February 2023. The survey included “13,860 owners of 2017-2023 model year EVs and plug-in hybrids.”
EV owners cited charging speeds as reasons for disappointment, but the biggest reason seemed to be an increase in the cost of charging. Satisfaction with the cost of charging “declined versus the same study last year by about 30 points.”
The study suggests that the drop in satisfaction from last year stems from an increase in energy costs. Data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration has shown that electricity costs in December 2022 were 9% more than the previous year. It was particularly bad in New England, having a 23% increase.
Owners in the survey reported more satisfaction when using Level 2 wall-mounted chargers and scheduled charging, showing that drivers could save money and increase satisfaction by changing their charging methods.
