Cars.com has found that searches for EVs on their site have increased in the past year, Inside EVs reports.
This February, the website saw a 145% increase in searches for used EVs compared to February of last year. When looking at searches for both used and new EVs, searches increased 84% from the previous year.
Most of these searches came from states including North Dakota, which demonstrated a 188% increase in searches, Mississippi with a 129% increase, Utah with a 125% increase, and Montana with a 119% increase in searches.
Though EVs still only account for “less than 3 percent of total searches on Cars.com,” car-shopping marketplace consumer surveys showed 70% of respondents “are at least somewhat likely to buy an electric vehicle, new or used.”
Additionally, 52% of those surveyed said they would prefer to purchase an EV “from a new entrant manufacturer–such as Tesla and Rivian–than a mainstream automaker.” 69% said they have charging stations close to home or work, and 54% “currently have access to EV charging.”
