The Auto Care Association has announced a new advisory committee dedicated to raising awareness and strategies addressing the industry’s environmental sustainability, according to a press release.

The Sustainability Committee seeks to educate the industry on its environmental impact as well as address how it can work to make a more positive impact. It plans to accomplish this by focusing on four different areas.

The first point of focus will be on an industry education campaign to help raise awareness. Alongside that, the committee will make an effort to critique legislation related to the auto industry and the environment. It will also work to help businesses recycle more efficiently and will push for better industry standards.

The committee holds members from various segments of the industry, ranging from “manufacturers, to warehouse distributors, to retailers and shops.” Those on the committee include Mike Allen of Federated Auto Parts Distributors, Inc., Scott Cannon of O'Reilly Auto Parts, Don Gebhardt of Valvoline Global, and many others.

“Our businesses are all a part of a natural ecosystem that needs to be preserved for generations to come,” Auto Care Association President and CEO Bill Hanvey stated. “If nature and natural resources are compromised, we’re compromised as well.”
