Privacy-tech company Privacy4Cars has announced a new feature it’s offering called a Vehicle Privacy Report, which shows consumers what data manufacturers collect and share about a vehicle, according to a press release.
It can provide a report within seconds to consumers disclosing certain personal data that the manufacturer collects, including “identifiers, biometric data, geolocation, data from synched phones, and user profiles,” and shows who they share it with, such as insurance companies, government agencies, or data brokers.
Each report created will hold “two key pieces of information:” Vehicle Privacy Label, which shows how the manufacturer collects, shares, and sells the data, and Vehicle Privacy History, which will show steps that the manufacturer has taken to protect the consumers’ privacy.
Andrea Amico, Privacy4Cars founder and CEO, said that it can take consumers hours to look through legal documents to understand what they’re agreeing to when they purchase or lease a vehicle.
“We realized this was a massive transparency challenge for both consumers who are unable to factor privacy into their purchasing decisions, and also for auto businesses who lack a simple way to disclose to their customers those data agreements that nowadays are an integral part of buying, renting, financing, and insuring a vehicle,” Amico stated.
