Ford has announced a recall of around 14,500 of the 2019-2020 Fusion plug-in hybrid vehicles due to a battery energy control module (BCEM) being damaged, Kelley Blue Book reports.
According to Ford, “the BECM may become damaged due to excessive voltage and current flow,” resulting in loss of power or fire.
Two customer complaints have been filed that are potentially related. No injuries or death have been reported.
The automaker is actively working to find a solution to the problem. In the meantime, owners of affected vehicles are cautioned to not charge their vehicles until directed otherwise.
Notices to owners of recalled vehicles will be mailed out on July 10, with a second letter to be sent out upon a remedy being found.
