As shops struggle to find and retain workers, one shop owner in New Jersey has found success in helping his employees maintain a healthy work-life balance, Yahoo Finance reports.
Shawn Gilfillan is the owner of Automotive Magic in Kenvil, New Jersey, and Magic Lube & Rubber at Lake Hopatcong. Gilfillan has spoken with Ratchet+Wrench in the past about ways to attract employees. This year, he has decided to invest resources into promoting a positive company culture as a way to further accomplish that.
When Gilfillan discovered Life Calibration, an online resource that provides methods for workers under pressure to help them maintain a balance between work and personal life, he thought it would be a great fit for him and his team.
The founder of Life Calibration, Eddie Lawrence, is himself an owner of a diesel and semi-truck repair and fleet maintenance company, causing Gilfillan to feel that much of his message would hit home with his shop.
Gilfillan began offering the services to employees at both of his locations this summer and has since seen a dramatic increase in employee retention, and expects it will help with recruitment as well.
“We love to invest in training like this because it's very important to us that our employees' lives work for them–both inside and outside of the shop,” stated Gilfillan.
