Arizona and Colorado Auto Shops Fundraise for Terminal Cancer Patient
North Colorado-based Scott’s Automotive & Service Centers recently held its second annual Brake for Breast Cancer event, according to a press release.
The event raises funds to support a family each year that is facing a terminal breast cancer diagnosis. The Brakes for Breast Cancer event is a combination of a 5k run and a car show, which took place at the Promenade Shops at Centerra in Loveland, Colorado, on October 22.
Last year, the initiative raised more than $4,000, and the company came into this year with the goal of tripling that number.
In addition to the main event, during October the company’s eight locations throughout Colorado and Arizona all came together to collect a $5 donation for every set of brakes installed. Scott’s Automotive partnered with vendors and suppliers including AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts and Factory Motor Parts to help match donations.
With the help of nonprofit partner Hope Lives, a mother, wife, and former kindergarten teacher named Anjel was chosen as this year’s recipient of support. Anjel received the rare diagnosis of triple-negative breast cancer, which has caused her to step back from her career in education to focus on spending time with her family and friends.
“The desire for love and closeness becomes paramount,” said Anjel of her diagnosis. “It becomes apparent that letting go of everyday concerns allows the formation of significant bonds.”
With the funds raised from Scott’s Automotive, Anjel can spend less time worrying about the cost of clinical trials and traveling and spend as much time as she can with her loved ones.
