Benjamin Fisher of New Haven, Connecticut has been announced as Mitchell 1 and National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)’s Technician of the Future this year, according to a press release.

To qualify for the title, recipients must be ASE certified, registered as a student, and have earned the highest cumulative test scores on the A4, A5, A6 and A8 tests. The award comes with a $1,000 cash prize.

Fisher recently earned an associate’s degree in Comprehensive Automotive Repair and Services from New Haven’s Gateway Community College.

While he was originally attending the University of Connecticut for software engineering during the COVID-19 pandemic, he took a semester off and started working at a local TravelCenters of America, where he discovered what career path he wanted to follow.

“That’s when I discovered that working with my hands as well as my brain was much more rewarding,” recalled Fisher. “My goal for the future is to make an impact in the world with my skill set.”
