Demand for Auto Technicians Prompts Montana College to Offer High School Auto Repair Course
The demand for automotive technicians has prompted a Butte, Montana college to offer high school students the opportunity to jumpstart a career in auto repair, KXLF reports.
High school students throughout Montana will be able to take the first year of Highland College’s automotive program online. It’s a two-year course that ends with students being certified as auto techs.
According to Highlands College Automotive Instructor Jerry Stewart, shops from around the state have reached out to the school in search of qualified technicians. Stewart says the lack of techs exists throughout the nation, and students need more training now than ever to enter the field.
As part of the program, students have the chance to intern with local shops and will be hired upon completion of the course.
“This is a great way for students to get right out into the workforce right after high school, you know, they’re going to be able to start that work-based learning,” remarked Public Education Coordinator Kinsley Rafish.
