Florida Repair Shop Sees Influx of Waterlogged Vehicles After Tropical Storm Debby

It takes just a couple inches of water to cause irreversible damage–but many drivers’ instincts are to push through rather than risk being stranded.

In the aftermath of Tropical Storm Debby, some Florida repair shops are being hit with water-damaged vehicles, reports NBC2 News.

Michael Warren, the owner of Windermere Sustainable Car Care in Naples, Florida, is one of these shops, having already seen several customers come through with waterlogged cars.

With how computerized many vehicles are, it takes just a couple inches of water to cause irreversible damage–but, unfortunately, many drivers’ instincts are to push through rather than risk being stranded.

While speaking with reporters, one such driver at Warren’s shop shared the experience she just had of gradually losing visibility of the road as water rose. Ultimately deciding to push through, she ended up suffering damage to her vehicle as a result.

Warren has urged his customers to pull over and always be cautious of any deep bodies of water, because he’s seen enough who have risked it to know what will likely happen.

“Most of the time, unfortunately, when you've run through water, it's the end of the car,” said Warren.
