Porsche to Offer Hybrid, Combustion Versions of Initially All-Electric Vehicle Models

Dec. 2, 2024
The company is looking to offer hybrid or combustion options for vehicles originally planned to be all-electric.

Porsche will be sticking with internal combustion engine production longer than initially planned, according to Green Car Reports.

Though the automaker originally planned to have 50% of its sales be electric and hybrid by 2025, followed by a gradual discontinuation of various ICE models in 2026, it’s now looking to stick with ICE vehicles for a while longer.

“We are currently in the middle of making conceptual decisions,” said Porsche CFO Lutz Meschke. “What is clear is that we are sticking with the combustion engine for much longer.”

Meschke added that the company is looking to offer hybrid or combustion options for vehicles originally planned to be all-electric, and for now, will continue to produce combustion versions of the Cayenne SUV and Panamera sedan.

The news aligns with a July announcement from Porsche in which the automaker shared the EV transition was progressing slower than expected, and would be prolonging its production of ICE vehicles as a result.
