Connecticut Repair Shop Partners With City to Repair Vehicles for Low-Income Individuals
An auto repair shop in New Canaan, Connecticut, has partnered with the city to provide auto repair and maintenance to low-income individuals, reports New Cannanite.
The initiative came from a local antique and specialty car show called Caffeine & Carburetors, when event organizers sought a way to use funds raised from the show to benefit the local community.
Called the Caffeine & Carburetors Automotive Assistance Fund, those in New Canaan who can’t afford auto repair or maintenance may request assistance from the New Canaan Department of Human Services. If qualified, the resident will have all their costs covered through a fund managed by the New Canaan Community Foundation.
The donated work is being done at C&H Auto, a locally owned Main Street business, with four cars already being completed over a two-week trial period.
Marcella Rand, Human Services department director and adult and senior services coordinator, said the department is unable to help with auto repair costs, making the program a great help.
“I’d like to get more involved in the community and this felt like a great way to do it,” said C&H owner Sean Brennan. “It’s been a good experience so far and we’re excited to be able to help.”
