NHTSA Closes Investigation Into Nissan Engine Failures

Launched in Dec. 2023, the investigation covered 454,840 Nissan vehicles, including 2019–2021 Nissan Rogue and Altima and Infiniti QX50 and QX55 models.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has concluded a preliminary investigation into Nissan concerning engine failures after the automaker issued a recall this past June, according to CBT News.

Launched in Dec. 2023, the investigation covered 454,840 Nissan vehicles, including 2019–2021 Nissan Rogue and Altima and Infiniti QX50 and QX55 models. It centered on engine failures causing loss of power and potentially fire hazards, after NHTSA received 1,878 complaints, including 12 cases that resulted in a crash or fire.

In addition to the recall Nissan initiated in June, the automaker has also extended the affected vehicles’ warranties to 10 years, or 120,000 miles.

As part of the recall, dealers will inspect the oil pan for metal debris, with the solution ranging from an oil change to a full engine replacement depending on the severity.
