100% Tariffs on Semiconductor Imports Coming Soon, Says White House

The U.S. government is considering significant tariffs on semiconductors following ongoing investigations.

U.S. President Donald Trump has outlined plans to implement tariffs on semiconductor imports, according to a report from Automotive Dive.

During a press briefing at the White House on Aug. 6, Trump said he plans to implement tariffs of approximately 100% on semiconductor imports.

Though no further details were provided on exactly when the tariffs would go into effect, Trump said in a CNBC interview the day prior that he plans to announce semiconductor levies in the next week or so.

Currently, there is a Section 232 investigation into semiconductor imports to determine any impact on national security or the domestic supply chain. Similar investigations have led to tariffs being enacted on steel, aluminum, and copper.
