Several lawsuits surrounding the recall fix for General Motors’ 6.2-liter V8 L87 engine are now being consolidated into one suit against the automaker, according to Autoblog.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating L87 V8 engines after receiving over 1,000 consumer complaints alleging engine failures. This led to GM recalling nearly 600,000 vehicles in April 2025. Vehicles impacted included certain model year 2019 to 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500; Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, and GMC Yukon; and Cadillac Escalade cars.

Since that recall was issued, though, owners of recalled vehicles have continued to face issues, even with the prescribed fix of a change in engine oil spec. The lawsuits argued that GM’s solution was insufficient to remedy the problem.

The first suit filed by Powell this year was followed by several others, with the Federal Judge having consolidated at least ten other suits with Powell in August, creating one consolidated lawsuit. Since then, another lawsuit has been added.

With the case set to proceed in Michigan, the court will review what measures GM took to resolve the engine defects, and if plaintiffs are deserving of further compensation.
