NHTSA Opens Probe Into Effectiveness of Jeep Rear Coil Springs Recall
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening a probe into how effective a previous recall for Jeep vehicles was, following reports of recall remedies not working.
USA TODAY reports that the probe covers a recall issued in June 2023. It covered 331,401 vehicles, including certain 2022–2023 Grand Cherokee models built by Stellantis' STLAM.MI Fiat Chrysler Automobiles U.S. subsidiary.
The issue—improperly installed rear coil springs—was remedied by dealers. However, NHTSA has received 20 consumer complaints involving detached rear coil springs since then.
NHTSA has shared that its probe will focus on the effectiveness of the recall and what’s causing rear coil springs to still detach afterward.
