Women in Auto Care Supports Education and Workforce Development at Car Care Day

Recognized by Congress, Car Care Day aims to inspire families, promote automotive careers as high-skill STEM pathways, and support workforce development initiatives.

Women in Auto Care was recognized for cosponsoring the fourth annual Car Care Day at The Discovery science museum in Reno, Nevada, as shared in a recent press release.

Hosted on March 28, alongside AAA and the Reno NAPA Auto Care Business Development Group, the community‑focused event opened The Discovery to the public with free admission for all ages. Car Care Day is designed to highlight automotive technology as a STEM career pathway.

The Car Care Day event spotlighted The Discovery’s Car Repair Center, the museum’s second most‑visited exhibit, originally installed in 2019 by the Reno NAPA Auto Care Business Development Group to promote automotive technicians as a STEM profession. Throughout the day, guests engaged in a wide range of hands‑on, interactive activities, including: torque wrench test; warning light matching game; find that ratchet challenge; super service center; build a race car station; do‑it‑yourself crash testing; auto paint shop; car part petting zoo; and a Car Care photo booth.

An outdoor car show filled the museum parking lot, featuring vehicles from the
Wicked Wayz CC Lowriders Club, an AAA wrecker and mobile repair truck, the Ghostbusters wagon from the National Automobile Museum, a Waste Management truck, and local race cars.

In addition to interactive exhibits, attendees had the opportunity to meet motorsports legends and rising stars. NHRA Funny Car Driver and Team Owner Ron Capps and Top Fuel rising star Maddi Gordon, both of Ron Capps Racing, were on site signing autographs and engaging with fans.

In recognition of the event’s impact on education and workforce development, Women in Auto Care, along with other event sponsors, received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Senator Jacky Rosen's (D-NV) office.

“This event directly supports our mission to close the technician gap through education, awareness and scholarships,” said Missy Stephens, manager, of community engagement for ACA.  “By introducing families to automotive technology in a fun, hands‑on environment, Car Care Day helps reframe the technician role as a high‑skill STEM career. Women in Auto Care is proud to support initiatives like this that inspire the next generation and ensure a strong, diverse future for our industry.”
