BMW Recall Addresses Potential Power and Rollaway Hazards
BMW has issued a recall over a risk of rollaway and/or loss of power, reports Car and Driver.
27,720 vehicles were included in the recall, comprising 2022–2026 model year 8-series models; 2021–2023 model year 5-series models; and 2024–2026 model year 750e xDrive sedans.
The problem stems from excessive wear caused by the connection of the driveshaft and the rear-axle differential. These parts can become degraded and lead to a total loss of power to the rear wheels. There may also be a rollaway risk if the parking brake isn’t engaged.
To resolve the issue, BMW will be inspecting the driveshaft and rear differential, and will add adhesive to the connection as needed, or replace both the driveshaft and rear differential if necessary. Owner notification letters will be sent out beginning Oct. 2.
