April 17, 2019—Apple is allegedly in talks with four companies to potentially supply next-generation sensors for autonomous vehicles, three sources familiar with the discussion said to Reuters. According to the publication, Apple's "Project Titan," is the company's move to enter the AV spectrum, where talks are focused on the next-generation lidar sensor that provides a three-dimensional scope of the road.

Three sources told Reuters that Apple is searching for lidar units that are smaller, cheaper, and are able to be more mass produced than technology today. Apple's interest in lidar sensors comes following key hires from Tesla Inc and Alphabet Inc's Google.

Two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that Apple is believed to have its own lidar sensor's under development. Apple is allegedly interested in autonomous vehicles.

“They’re not happy with most of what they see,” the first person familiar with the matter said to Reuters. “They’re looking for a revolutionary design.”

Apple declined to comment.
