July 5, 2022—Nissan has announced the recall of 322,000 Pathfinder SUVs.
According to Kelley Blue Book, the recall stems from an issue with car hoods opening up while the car is in drive. More specifically, the secondary latch on a Pathfinder's hood can fail due to accumulations of dust, dirt and debris.
"If the primary hood latch is inadvertently released or the hood is not closed properly after engine service, the secondary hood latch may not hold the hood closed as designed while the vehicle is in motion.” Nissan said in documents filed with the federal government's car safety agency.
This recall affects Pathfinder SUVs with model years from 2013 to 2016. According to Nissan, the automaker suspects that around 0.44 percent of these Pathfinders have this issue. However, all of these affected model should be inspected to see if the secondary latch needs to be replaced.
