August 28, 2018—The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will host a public meeting on NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program on Sept. 14.

The meeting is intended to continue public dialogue on the latest insights into evolving technology, consumer preferences, and social trends important to American car buyers.

The meeting will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST and will be held at DOT Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program crash-tests new vehicles and rates them on how well they protect occupants in frontal, side, and rollover crashes. Results from these tests are compiled into a rating of 1 to 5 stars, with 5 stars being the highest rating.

The vehicle safety ratings appear on window stickers of new cars, and are on NHTSA’s NCAP website at www.nhtsa.gov/ratings.  The program also includes a checklist of recommended advanced crash avoidance technology systems such as lane departure warning, forward collision warning, crash imminent braking, and dynamic brake support.
