May 22, 2013—Michael J. Stanton, president and CEO of the Association of Global Automakers, announced yesterday his plans to retire in early 2014.
A longtime automotive industry lobbyist, Stanton has spent more than 35 years representing motor vehicle manufacturers before Congress, the Executive Branch and State legislatures.
"Mike has done an impressive job invigorating Global Automakers, delivering growth, and developing a clear and progressive vision," said John Krafcik, CEO of Hyundai Motor America and Global Automakers' chairman of the board. "I have enjoyed working with Mike in a period of great progress for the Association and hope to find a new president and CEO who can continue to lead the organization on the path that has been set."
Stanton said that he is retiring to spend more time with his family and friends.
Global Automakers will retain an executive search firm and establish a search committee to help find the organization’s next president and CEO.
