MAHLE Unveils ‘Game-Changing’ Diagnostic Tool

Nov. 4, 2014

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 4, 2014—MAHLE Service Solutions introduced TechPRO, its new diagnostic scan tool, during a packed press conference on the first day of AAPEX.

The new tool, which is still in development and scheduled to launch in mid-2015, was touted as a game changer, enabling technicians to work smarter and more efficiently to properly diagnose and repair today’s ever-advancing computer-controlled vehicles. MAHLE representatives had the tool connected to two vehicles at their booth and provided demonstrations to press and event attendees.

TechPRO is the first diagnostic scan tool from MAHLE made exclusively for the automotive aftermarket.

“This is taking technology that’s been built and invested in over many, many years and lessons learned at the OE level, and we’re now bringing it to the aftermarket,” said Max Dull, general manager for MAHLE Service Solutions.

Dull outlined a few of the reasons MAHLE believes the tool will break new ground:

  • It’s fast, capable of completing a full vehicle scan in roughly 30 seconds.
  • It’s easy to use. MAHLE assembled a group of technicians to design the interface and ensure the tool’s functionality.
  • The TechPRO boats a low-cost subscription model with no hardware to purchase. It can run on any Windows-based system, allowing the use of existing tablets, laptops or desktop computers. It will be expanded to other operating systems later.

TechPRO also features J-2534 pass-through capability for reflashing and reprogramming. It comes with a Bluetooth-enabled vehicle communication interface (VCI). Other functions of the tool include cylinder balance tests, compression testing, key relearn and misfire graphing.

Also at the press conference, MAHLE introduced shop owners Donny Seyfer of Seyfer Automotive Inc. in Wheat Ridge, Colo., and Bogi Lateiner of 180 Degrees Automotive in Phoenix, as spokespeople for the new diagnostic tool. Seyfer and Lateiner have been using the TechPRO in their shops and helping to guide its development.
