June 7, 2022—Phantom braking has some Teslas stopping dead in their tracks without reason.
U.S. safety regulators have heard complaints from over 750 Tesla owners about a braking problem connected to the vehicle’s partially automated driving systems.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed in a 14-page letter on the agency's website that "crashes, injuries, death, and property damage" have come as a result of the vehicle’s inexplicable phantom braking.
The Detroit News reported that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched a probe in February after 354 complaints came from 2021 and 2022 Tesla Models 3 and Y owners seeking answers to the problem.
