General James F. Amos Joins LORD Corporation Board

Jan. 6, 2015—LORD Corporation announced that General James F. Amos, USMC (ret.), has joined the company’s board of directors.

Amos most recently served as the 35th Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps and retired on Dec. 1. He is the first Marine Corps aviator to serve as Commandant.

Born in Wendell, Idaho, Amos graduated from the University of Idaho in January 1970 with a degree in finance. After commissioning, he attended naval flight training in Pensacola, Fla., and was designated a Naval Aviator on Nov. 23, 1971.

Amos commanded at every level, from lieutenant colonel to general. His command tours included Marine Wing Support Squadron 173, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 312, and Marine Aircraft Group 31. As a major general, he commanded the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, and led them in combat twice during Operations IRAQI FREEDOM I and II.  From 2004–2008, Lieutenant General Amos commanded the II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C., and the Marine Corps Combat Development Command at Quantico, Va.

Amos retired after 42 years of active service. His personal decorations include the Department of Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Navy Distinguished Service Medal with Gold Star, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with Gold Star, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
