Jose Register, vice president of emerging technologies within the technology of the Auto Care Association, said those in the aftermarket industry should be able to access repair data.

March 19, 2019—Aftermarket industry representatives are calling for equal access to vehicle repair data. According to the Transport Topics, Jose Register, vice president of emerging technologies within the technology of the Auto Care Association, said those in the aftermarket industry should be able to access repair data.

Register spoke on the right to repair at the American Trucking Associations' 2019 Technology & Maintenance Council meeting.

“We feel we should have access to the same data that they have to repair a vehicle,” Register said during the session. “An incoming tide raises all boats. Everyone benefits from that exchange.”

According to Transport Topics, Lew Flowers, owner of Flowers Fleet Services in Oklahoma City and chairman of TMC’s Access to Repair Information Task Force, plans to present the group's information to ATA policy experts in the spring.

“[The] objective here is to make it so that we can have a conversation about vehicle communication that isn’t unilateral,” Register said during the session.
