Amazon on Track to Capture Nearly Half of All E-commerce Sales

July 16, 2018
Amazon will capture a whopping 49.1 percent of all e-commerce sales in 2018. This may coincide with how Amazon's efforts to infiltrate the automotive aftermarket.

July 16, 2018—New research out Friday from eMarketer, a research firm specializing in data in the digital marketplace, shows that Amazon has a staggering lead over every other major retailer trying to compete online.

Amazon will capture a whopping 49.1 percent of all e-commerce sales in 2018, according to eMarketer, and reported from the Chicago Business Journal. This puts Amazon way ahead of its nearest competitor in the online space, eBay, which is predicted to get merely 6.6 percent of all sales online.

eMarketer found that Amazon now controls nearly 5 percent of the total U.S. retail market both online and offline.

Over the last year, Amazon has been working to infiltrate the automotive aftermarket. It recently announced its Tire Installation Program, which has partnered with 118 Sears Auto Centers across the U.S. to offer full-service tire installation and balancing for Amazon customers.

Amazon’s efforts to foray into the automotive aftermarket has affected some of the industry’s biggest players. For example, Advance Auto Part’s shares have have nearly halved since 2015.
