Sept. 28, 2022—New Jersey has announced funding for electric vehicle charging stations in multiple state parks.
According to 92.7 WOBM, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and Commissioner Shawn LaTourette made the announcement. Funding will come from sources that include the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities and the Board of Public Utilities.
Two chargers were placed at Liberty State Park through a plan from 2021 wherein the NJ-DEP announced the addition of chargers to over 60 tourist areas in the state.The more recently announced state park charger plan will place EV chargers in the parking lots of state parks. 92.7 WOBM reported that there are already chargers at Round Valley Reservoir in Hunterdon County. The NJ-DEP plans to implement Level 2 chargers at the following parks:
- Cheesequake State Park in Middlesex County
- High Point State Park in Sussex County
- Wawayanda State Park in Sussex and Passaic Counties
- Wharton State Forest - Batso Village in Burlington County
In a statement, BPU President Joseph L. Fiordaliso wrote that the state's EV Tourism program aims to tackle range anxiety, and EV incentive programs for the state aim to reduce 40% of greenhouse gas emissions in New Jersey stemming from vehicles.
