Ford Maverick, Bronco Win North American Car of the Year Honors
Jan. 17, 2022—The Ford Maverick and Ford Bronco both won 2022 North American Vehicle of the Year honors.
Voted on and announced by the North American Car of the Year jury, the Maverick won the truck category and the Bronco won the SUV category. According to a report from the Detroit Free Press, The Honda Civic won in the car category.
"These awards are well-deserved recognition for the tremendous amount of work, focus and energy our teams have invested in designing, engineering and building exciting vehicles for our customers," Ford said in a news release. "This also reflects the overwhelming reception we’ve had from our Maverick and Bronco customers alike.”
This is the second year in a row Ford has taken home two Vehicle of the Year awards; last year the automaker won in the car and truck categories for its Mustang Mach-E and F-150. Runners-up were the Lucid Air and Volkswagen Golf in the car category, the Hyundai Santa Cruz and Rivian R1T in the truck category, and the Genesis GV70 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 in the SUV category.
The jury that decides the awards is made up of 50 automotive journalists throughout the U.S. and Canada. Awards have been presented annually since 1994.
