Jan. 21, 2021—A fully female-owned auto repair shop has opened in Lincoln, Neb., KOLN reported.
The Mechanix Garage is the first wholly female-owned shop in the city, owner Delta Nelson told the outlet.
Nelson grew up in the automotive industry. Her grandfather was a mechanic and owned an auto parts store. She hopes her story can inspire other women to follow their dreams.
According to Catalyst, a nonprofit that works with companies to accelerate women into leadership positions, women make up less than 10 percent of automotive repair employees in the United States.
“So I have done my best to go above and over, to prove anybody wrong,” Nelson told KOLN. “I wanted to show girls you can do anything you put your mind to.”
