Volkswagen has announced a recall of over 143,000 vehicles due to an issue with the front passenger airbag sensors not operating correctly, BGR reports.

The recall applies to “certain model year 2018-2021 Atlas and 2020 Atlas Cross Sport vehicles.” According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) press release, a total of 143,053 vehicles are affected.

The recall was issued over faulty wiring in some passenger occupant detection systems (PODS), which poses a risk of the front passenger airbag not activating in the event of a crash. 

A repair has not been released yet. Until one is available, Volkswagen has advised that “owners should not allow anyone to sit in the front passenger seat.”
