New York Auto Shop Provides Inspection Service for Used Vehicle Sales
An auto repair shop in Poughkeepsie, New York is offering an inspection service for those looking to purchase a used car, Mid-Hudson News reports.
The program from Foreign Car Specialists (FCS), called a “Peace of Mind” inspection, serves to help consumers avoid purchasing unreliable vehicles while shopping for used cars.
Technicians with experience in vehicle assessment and an understanding of state and federal regulations will go through extensive testing and examination of any used vehicle being considered for purchase as part of the service.
Though some sellers can clear data from dashboard displays, such as check engine lights, FCS employs digital vehicle inspection technology that can detect hidden data that over-the-counter scanners won’t, according to Lisa Eckler, who owns the shop alongside her husband Kevin.
“We adopted digital vehicle inspection technology years before most other shops in our area, we’re well accustomed to utilizing the software to ensure consistent and accurate evaluations,” explained Lisa Eckler.
Customers will receive a written vehicle assessment report that can be accessed online, which highlights potential problems with a vast variety of components, including fluids, electrical systems, cooling systems, suspension, brakes, engine/exhaust, HVAC, tires, and body damage.
Technicians place the vehicle on a lift to examine its underside for any leaks or other issues. As long as the vehicle is street-legal and weather permits, it is also test-driven to determine drivetrain, steering, suspension, and engine performance.
The report includes any existing safety recalls and at least 25 to 30 photos of the vehicle, with circles and arrows indicating potential causes for concern.
“Documented proof of vehicle condition with photographs and an unbiased, honest, expert evaluation provides buyers with excellent negotiating power,” said Lisa Eckler.
