The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles will be entering the second phase of its transition to new inspection stickers, the Troy Record reports.
The second phase will consist of shipping the on-demand sticker-printing system to thousands of state-licensed inspection stations in the state. This new system will print vehicle identification numbers and mileage information directly onto the sticker.
Over 100,000 inspections have been performed since the new system was first launched earlier this year, though the transition is expected to not be complete until the end of 2023. Stickers from the former system are expected to be occasionally seen until late 2024.
“These print-on-demand stickers will go a long way toward reducing and even preventing potential fraud and helping law enforcement get better information about the vehicles they see every day on New York’s roads,” said DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder.
