Toyota has issued a recall for around 550,000 vehicles due to a safety issue with the second-row seat assemblies, reports Cleveland.com.

Included in the recall are model year 2021 to 2024 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid SUVs. Toyota has said the recliner assemblies in the second-row seats could fail to completely lock when the seatback is adjusted. This presents risk of injury in a crash, especially at high speeds.

A fix for the problem is being prepared by Toyota, which will involve replacing the return springs in the seat recliner assemblies with better parts. Toyota has said owners will be notified by early May.
