May 15, 2018—As industry superstar Bogi Lateiner said in her WORLDPAC class, “Recruiting and Training Technicians,” there is no magic bullet or one secret way to find technicians. Just like marketing for customers, you want to utilize multiple different methods for finding quality technicians.

She said to make sure that everyone you know knows where you’re looking, as you never know where a good lead will come from. She also mentioned other untapped talent pools many shops aren’t looking into—like women, veterans, and inexperienced techs with the right attitude.

Lateiner listed some additional ideas for finding strong candidates:

    • Craigslist/Monster.com/Indeed.com
    • Finder fees
    • Professional headhunters
    • Looking out of state
    • Relocation incentives
    • Asking for referrals
    • Tech school alumni offices
    • Other shops
    • Tool trucks/tow truck drivers
