Sept. 4, 2018—Volkswagen has announced plans to utilize electric vehicles (EVs) with commercial transportation as part of a new car-sharing service in Berlin. The service’s fleet would be entirely comprised of EVs.

The EVs are expected to be made available to Berlin citizens by the second quarter of 2019. As part of the “We Share” platform, the service is expected to feature one of the largest EV-only fleets used for car-sharing, according to futurecar.com.

Initially, VW’s EV, car-sharing fleet will consist of 1,500 e-Golf cars. By 2020, though, the OEM intends to introduce 500 e-up! units around Berlin in an effort to expand the service.

With the new car-sharing service, VW is reportedly attempting to target young adults with busy lifestyles.
