SUV and EV Sales On the Rise

The Chevy Bolt EV posted record second-quarter sales, while sales of its Buick premium SUVs soared 86 percent.

June 7, 2021—U.S automakers reported a sharp rise in quarterly sales, particularly for SUVs and EVs, Reuters reported.

GM, the No. 1 U.S. automaker, said its Chevrolet Bolt EV posted record second-quarter sales with total Chevrolet sales up 31 percent, while sales of its Buick premium SUVs soared 86 percent.

Toyota said alternative powered vehicles represented nearly a quarter of its sales volume through June this year, up from 13 percent a year earlier.

Several new EVs will launch in the second half of 2021 including Chevrolet's Bolt EUV, Hyundai's Ioniq 5 and Kia's EV6 models, which will likely lift the overall share of EVs in the United States from just two percent of all registered vehicles currently.
