Ford Launches Telematics Platform for Fleets

June 11, 2020

The subscription-based product includes GPS tracking, geofencing, vehicle health alerts and driver behavior data, among other things.

June 11, 2020—Ford announced a new telematics subscription product for commercial fleet vehicles.

Named Ford Telematics, the web-based platform will have features like geofencing, GPS tracking, live vehicle health alerts and driver behavior analysis, according to a press release.

The system is software that hooks directly into the hardware already installed on new vehicles. Here's the description from the press release:

Ford Telematics takes advantage of Ford vehicles’ built-in modems to transfer data directly from the vehicle to the cloud, and to connect seamlessly with its platform – without the need for additional aftermarket hardware, third-party management or installation downtime. Factory-fitted modems are integrated deep into the architecture of Ford vehicles, enabling the company to engineer the vehicle, the data signals and the modem in tandem to maximize the depth and breadth of data used to develop new solutions for fleet customers.

All 2020 Ford and Lincoln vehicles have this connectivity factory installed.
