March 8, 2023–Hyundai Mobis, the parts and smart mobility arm of the Hyundai Motor Company, has announced the development of a system that can automatically adjust a vehicle’s suspension at an affordable price, Inside EVs reports.

The system, which is called Electronic Leveling Control (ELC), can “automatically adjust an electric vehicle’s ride height by up to 2.3 inches.” It was created alongside the Hyundai Motor Company to “protect EV batteries, increase driving range, and make it easier to get in and out of vehicles.”

The system controls the height from all four wheels using an electric hydraulic pump, and has sensors to detect changes in height as the vehicle drives, according to an official press release. The driver also has the option of manually selecting the vehicle’s height. 

Park Jung-hun, vice president and head of the safety parts lab at Hyundai Mobis, said the company expects the new system “to attract a huge amount of attention in the future mobility market as it will materialize different new features.”

The company plans to incorporate a camera to scan the road and utilize navigation data to prepare the suspension for bumps in the road. The company is still testing the new system but plans to release it to consumers soon.
