Rivian Rolling Out New Software Update for R1S SUV, R1T Pickup Truck
Rivian announced new software features coming to its R1S electric SUV and R1T electric pickup truck, including hands-free driving and being able to register aftermarket wheels, according to Green Car Reports.
The over-the-air software update, 2025.06, brings with it a new hands-free driver assist system being launched for Gen 2 vehicles, which includes 2025 model year and newer.
While still controlling steering, acceleration, and braking on divided highways, the new Enhanced Highway Assist now allows drivers to take their hands off the wheel for extended periods of time, Rivian has said.
Rivian is also introducing an update that will enable wheel swaps, allowing for aftermarket wheel-and-tire setups to be registered in a vehicle’s settings menu and providing drivers with more accurate range estimates.
Other updates include a chime sound to alert drivers when a vehicle in front of them moves in an intersection; side mirrors tilting down when in reverse; the ability to close charge port doors through an app; and tire puncture detection.
A performance upgrade for dual-motor models containing Standard+, Large, and Max battery packs is also being released, offered at the cost of $5,000. It increases output to 665 hp and 829 lb-ft of torque and adds Sport, Rally, and Soft Sand drive modes. Rivian’s Rally Mode, currently found on R1 variants, will also now be made available to Performance Dual-Motor models.
Most of these features are to be released immediately for Gen 2 and earlier Gen 1 models. The chime feature is set to come out for Gen 2 models before it gets to Gen 1 models later on.
