General Motors Issues Recall for 2014 Models Over Airbag Safety Concerns

The recall affects certain 2014 GM sedans where inflator corrosion may lead to explosions.

General Motors has recalled 2014 model year vehicles over risk of exploding airbags, according to Kelley Blue Book.

The recall impacts 2014 model year Chevrolet Cruze and Buick Verano sedans, which are at risk of the roof-rail airbag inflators exploding and sending dangerous, hot metal fragments flying inside the cabin.

GM has said the issue can arise from certain older inflators, which can corrode and weaken the welded joints inside.

No injuries related to the issue have been reported, but GM is aware of three incidents where an inflator exploded. Dealers will replace airbag modules on affected vehicles.
