Jeep has issued a recall over an issue with the rear coil springs in certain vehicles, reports USA Today.

Included in the recall are the Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L, and Grand Cherokee 4XE, with up to 328,381 vehicles potentially impacted. The long-wheelbase models in the recall include 2021–2023 model years, and the 2022 and 2023 model years for standard GC and 4XE versions are also impacted. Grand Cherokee models with the air suspension are not included in the recall.

The issue lies with rear coil springs that were incorrectly installed during production. The rear coil components themselves are okay, but due to the faulty installation, are prone to detaching.

0.1 percent of the recall population is expected to be affected. Jeep has reported 29 customer assistance records and 409 warranty claims, but no accidents or injuries linked to the issue.

Jeep will be notifying vehicle owners, instructing them to have a dealer replace their vehicle’s rear coil-spring lower isolators.
