Stellantis Recalls 246K Ram Heavy Duty Pickups

Stellantis on Wednesday issued a recall of 246,000 Ram Heavy Duty and Chassis Cab pickups due to faulty fuel pumps.

Nov. 22, 2021—Stellantis on Wednesday issued a recall of 246,000 Ram Heavy Duty and Chassis Cab pickups due to faulty fuel pumps.

According to a report from the Detroit Free Press, units from the 2019 and 2020 model years that are being recalled have 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engines. Complaints say fuel pumps in those engines have worn out, causing affected trucks to stall or preventing them from starting in the first place.

Those complaints prompted an investigation by the NHTSA, though Stellantis said in a statement the decision to recall affected trucks was already under consideration before that point.

"A review of warranty data led to an internal investigation that discovered the components are subject to inadvertent wear that may contaminate their mechanisms with metal shavings. If this occurs, it may cause the vehicles to stall or prevent them from starting," the news release said.

Stellantis said it will begin notifying affected vehicle owners in December.
