Ford Recalls 185K F-150 Pickups Due to Driveshaft Issue

Dec. 28, 2021

Ford Motor Co. will recall nearly 185,000 2021-2022 F-150 pickups due to a possibility a vehicle's driveshaft may fracture and prevent its wheels from turning properly.

Dec. 28, 2021—Ford Motor Co. will recall nearly 185,000 2021-2022 F-150 pickups due to a possibility the vehicle's driveshaft may fracture and prevent its wheels from turning properly.

According to a report from the Detroit Free Press, Ford notified the NHTSA on Dec. 16 that a thermal insulator may loosen and come into contact with the aluminium driveshaft, which could cause fracturing due to heat or other damage.

That could cause damage to surrounding components and loss of vehicle control, significantly increasing the risk of injury or crash. Drivers with affected vehicles may notice a loose underbody insulator, " or they may hear a rattling, clicking or clunking noise due to a loose underbody insulator contacting the driveshaft," according to the report.

According to the documents filed with the NHTSA, Ford said around 10 percent of trucks made from Jan. 10, 2020, through Nov. 20, 2021 may be affected by the recall.
