Numbers: What’s Getting in the Way?

Parts, people, costs, and technology are putting pressure on shops and their technicians.

Parts availability may be the most visible day-to-day disruption, but technician-related challenges remain a significant concern for shops. Nearly one-quarter of shops (24%) say finding qualified or responsible technicians is a challenge, while 10% struggle to retain them. At the same time, 30% say keeping up with diagnostic tools and software updates is difficult.

And those workforce challenges don’t exist in a vacuum. Shops are also contending with parts disruptions and financial pressures that can make it harder to keep technicians productive, equipped and on the job.
